Train to
Guangzhou. However, before that, here are the people we are saying ‘good bye’:
our guide in Beijing Jasmine and our coach driver Yang Wen Min (who taught me some “Chinese magic” tricks).
Actually, I
took these photos earlier but this is a good place to put them.
And now,
the train. It’s very fast.
I like
travelling on a train or on a plane. Those circumstances provoke interesting
discussions: about geography of China, about Soviet Union, about modern China…
I don’t write much about interaction within our group in this diary, but it is
quite interesting and it happens all the time.
The
landscapes were amazing but here I show only two:
Upon
arrival, we had a warm welcome by Chinese students who met us. Their English
was better than our (my in particular) Chinese, which I was glad of. You know,
I am trying to practise Chinese every time I have an opportunity that suits my
vocabulary (and sometimes I extend it through that), but, at the moment, I cannot
have a decent dialogue on a relatively free topic in Chinese.
The dinner
was very good (I think, I didn’t write before that during our meals in China
we’ve learnt something about Chinese culture related to eating food – thanks to
our group leader Sarah). The least expected and one of the most tasty dishes
was fried pigeon.
Our room is
good but one thing surprised me about it: why would one put a transparent
window between a bathroom and a bedroom?
According
to Sarah, the hotel staff covered it with some paper specially for us.
Actually, in our previous hotel (in Beijing) we had a similar window:
So far, no
one answered our question: why?!
And another
question: why would one put towel hangers within a shower cabin?
