Sunday.
Again taiji. Again getting up at 6 am. Alasdair couldn’t make it. I made! J
Then a trip
to Foshan.
First, a
ceramics park-museum.
Lots of
pottery, and porcelain, and Bruce Lee statues. J
One of the
most interesting things is a kiln for burning pottery. We heard about kilns in
a lecture about ceramics several days ago.
We also
tried making some artistic tiles of clay. This one is my.
Interestingly,
I asked several people from our group but no one guessed what I depicted.
In
fact, this is devoted to “The Little Prince” by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry: a
rose, an airplane, and the hat which is a boa who ate a rabbit (yes, I remember
it was an elephant, not a rabbit, but the instructor taught us to make rabbits
and it would be a pity not to use the one I made; besides, I didn’t have time
to make an elephant).
And then
the Foshan Ancestral Temple. Once a Daoist temple, nowadays it’s a museum.
I’d prefer
to explore it a bit more than we did, however, we didn’t have much time as we
intended to see two shows. A Lion dancing performance.
And a kung
fu performance (which in this case was a martial arts demonstration, not a
theatre show as the one I saw in Beijing). In between the two shows there was
some time to explore an exhibition devoted to Huang Feihong (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wong_Fei-Hung), a famous local martial artist of
the 19th and the beginning of 20th century.
In the
evening, there was a meeting with a lady practicing Buddhism, organized by our
restless group leader Sarah. Unfortunately, most of those interested in the
meeting were not able to attend because of different reasons; most regrettably,
our group’s main expert on Buddhism, Sophie, left to Hong Kong (for a course on
Buddhism!) just earlier in the day. Therefore, it was again just me and
Alasdair. And the Buddhist lady, of course. We did our best, though, to ask
some interesting questions – and the discussion was quite nice.
